Mr David P S O'Brart

Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

David O’Brart is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals NHS Trust. The Trust contains one of the world’s premier medical schools and the Ophthalmology Department is internationally acclaimed. David is the director of the glaucoma and refractive surgery services there. After qualifying as an Ophthalmic Surgeon, he trained in corneal and small-incision cataract surgery. He spent two years at the United Medical and Dental Schools in London, researching Excimer Laser Refractive and corneal surgery. This lead to the completion of a Doctorate in Medicine, over 40 publications in leading Ophthalmic journals and an international reputation in the field of corneal laser surgery. After completing his surgical training at St Thomas’ Hospital, London and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, he undertook a fellowship at the renowned Shiley Eye centre in San Diego, California, where he studied advanced techniques in glaucoma. David continues to research refractive surgery and glaucoma and has co-authored and contributed to books on corneal topography and refractive surgery.
