Carolyn trained at Moorfields Eye Hospital, and spent her first years as an orthoptist running four hospital departments in Kent. She returned to London to work with Eric Arnott firstly at Royal Eye Hospital, then at the new Charing Cross Hospital where she was Head Orthoptist for over 30 years. She was Chairman of British Orthoptic Society from 1974 until 1981 and following that represented UK on Council of International Orthoptic Association.
She has undertaken a considerable amount of clinical research, has lectured all over the world and has published more than 40 papers. In 1991 she was awarded the accolade of being the Burian Lecturer at International Orthoptic Conference in Germany, and in 1992 gave Patricia Lance Lecture at the annual meeting of Orthoptic Association of Australia. She has been a Guest Fellow at both Sydney and La Trobe Universities in Australia. In 1997 she was awarded a Fellowship by British and Irish Orthoptic Society for her services to orthoptics.
Special interests: all aspects of adult and paediatric strabismus and the diagnosis and management of defects affecting binocular vision.
