Cataracts

What is a cataract?

A cataract is a cloudiness that develops in the lens, which restricts the light reaching the retina and distorts vision. Left untreated, it will continue to develop until vision is completely impaired. Although cataracts are a natural feature of ageing, they can occur at any age, and can be accelerated or caused by UV radiation, diabetes or certain medications. Injury to the eye, such as a hard blow or a deep cut, may also cause a cataract.
