Your first visit

What happens on your first visit to us?

When you arrive at the centre, you will be shown into our comfortable waiting area.

We try to keep to a fixed schedule of appointments during the day, but occasionally examinations take a little longer than expected.

We will record your past medical history and a medical ophthalmologist will carry out a very thorough eye examination. The examination is painless, so there is nothing to worry about, but it may be quite lengthy (up to two hours).

Following your examination, your consultant will discuss your condition with you, as well as our approach to treatment and the results you could expect to achieve. If surgery is required we will discuss this, or if a non-surgical condition is diagnosed, we can arrange treatment. If a cataract is diagnosed and a lens implant is recommended, your eye will be painlessly measured by ultrasound. This will assess the power of the lens implant needed to correct any pre-existing long or short sight and provide optimum post-operative vision. The surgeons at the Arnott Eye Associates operate at a number of hospitals in London, all of which maintain the highest standards of care, using the latest equipment.
